At the briefing, the Committee will hear testimony on educational adequacy, uniformity, and sufficiency for Indigenous / Native American students in New Mexico in light of the historic Yazzie/Martínez litigation.

The final list of panelists will be soon be complete. So far we have confirmed two lawyers representing the plaintiffs-appellants and two lawyers representing the various state defendants-appellees.

Please note that this is the first of a series of briefings / hearings that the Committee plans to hold. While this first one will focus on the Yazzie/Martínez litigation, the Committee plans for subsequent hearings to focus on other aspects of Indigenous / Native American education in New Mexico and desires to feature tribal government officials, experts on culturally relevant education, state education administrators, and others who can testify insightfully about the state of education for Indigenous / Native American students in New Mexico.
