NOTICE ON CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)

March 17, 2020: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: NCORE 2020 CANCELLED

Due to the ongoing concerns about Novel Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19), and the impact from travel restrictions and need for physical distancing, the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in American Higher Education (NCORE) that was scheduled to take place May 26-30, 2020, in New York City has been cancelled. This extraordinary and heartbreaking decision is responsive to the urgings of health authorities and the World Health Organization (WHO) who have declared a pandemic. We have a clear need to be responsible to the biological realities of this virus. The health and wellbeing of the NCORE community is our primary concern.

NCORE is more than a conference. For more than thirty years, NCORE has held space for personal and professional transformations that have profoundly shaped the lives and relationships of those who have come to call NCORE home. Together, we have built a supportive and vibrant national network of practitioners and change agents who are deeply committed to consciousness raising and taking action in the service of social justice to transform our institutions. The strength of community will carry us forward through this difficult time as we collectively face up to the challenges of this global pandemic.

Though we must remain physically distant, we are working to develop an online event which will be held at the end of May. Please plan to join us online as we gather to address critically important social justice issues at the intersections of our beautiful spectrum of identities.

NCORE Webinars
NCORE Webinars will continue as a resource for professional development and engagement with the work that we hold so dear. We shall be in consultation on how else we can take advantage of virtual engagement with our constituents. Information on the same will be sent out once a process and protocol has been established.

Registration Fee Refunds
As per our cancellation policy, we will refund registration in full and without fees to those who are registered for NCORE 2020. Those who had already cancelled and had a refund processed will receive the administration fee that was assessed returned.

Hotel reservations will not be cancelled by NCORE or the hotel automatically. Check your hotel confirmation email for instructions or call the hotel directly to cancel.

Presenters
We know you have worked long and hard to prepare to share your knowledge and we are thankful for it. We hope there will be opportunities for you to do this in the future.
We also thank our invited speakers, keynote speakers, and poster session presenters.

Thank you to our sponsors, suppliers, vendors, and everyone that has worked so hard each year to make NCORE a comprehensive conference.

Sincerely,

Dr. Belinda Biscoe
Interim Senior Associate Vice President, University Outreach

Dr. Jane Irungu
Executive Director, Southwest Center for Human Relations Studies
