(LOCAL) Atrisco Heritage Academy Bilingual Portfolio Presentations
When: Sat, Mar 02 2019 12:00am - Sat, Mar 09 2019 5:00pm
Where: 10800 Dennis Chavez Blvd. SW Albuquerque, NM“Until I am free to write bilingually and to switch codes without having always to translate, while I still have to speak English or Spanish when I would rather speak Spanglish, and as long as I have to accommodate the English speakers rather than having them accommodate me, my tongue will be illegitimate. I will no longer be made to feel ashamed of existing. I will have my voice: Indian, Spanish, white. I will have my serpent's tongue - my woman's voice, my sexual voice, my poet's voice. I will overcome the tradition of silence.”
― Gloria E. Anzaldúa
Atrisco Heritage Academy would like to formally invite you to their student's bilingual seal presentations. We have close to 96 possible candidates this year and we need judges. Please see the link below to sign up for a time.
At a time when hope is back on the table for a public bilingual education, we can only insist that the bilingual seal portfolio is one of the most comprehensive manners in which to assess our students. This is why your presence is so important to us and to our families. When we come together to witness the fruits of all of our labor, it makes all the heartache and hard work worth it. It takes a village to raise our children and we as a bilingual village are prepared to see them through till the end.
Even if you are not able to come please share this with your bilingual contacts. This assessment and space the students and staff have created is a very emotional and rewarding experience, one that you will not forget. We promise! We hope you are able to support our amazing students as they reflect about their academic and linguistic growth over the time they have been at our school and our district. For teac, hers there will be certificates of participation that can be used for domain four. For everyon,e there will be moments of AHA!, and those are the best when we realize the work we do every day is worth it.
