Where: Oakland Marriott City Center, Oakland, CA

Join this two-day gathering September 12-13, 2019 to learn about, align, and strengthen institutional and sectoral racial equity work across the State of California. The Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE) California Convening is an outstanding opportunity and a response to a call for action from jurisdiction leaders statewide that engage in racial equity work with GARE. The movement for racial equity in California government is growing. Since 2016, nearly 50 local governments, regional agencies, and state departments have participated in GARE cohorts and technical assistance, representing 26.2 million of the state’s residents. It is more critical now than ever before that government plays a leadership role in confronting structural racism. In Oakland, we will come together, share ideas, successes, and challenges, address statewide, regional, and national trends, and develop shared goals and strategies for future racial equity work in California. We are excited that this year’s California Convening will include presentations from and intentional and strategic engagement with community working with participating GARE jurisdictions. Your attendance and active participation are essential to building a sustainable and impactful racial equity movement in California.
