It is a pleasure to announce the 5th Annual Indigenous Education Research Conference. The conference, which is organized by the Institute of American Indian Education at the University of New Mexico, will take place virtually on April 22nd, 2021.

The theme of the 5th Annual Indigenous Education Research Conference is Strengthening Educational Sovereignty: Challenges to and possibilities for addressing critical Native education issues in contentious times.

Affirming and asserting educational sovereignty and rights is a priority for Native Nations of New Mexico. This priority is constrained by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and delays of the Yazzie/Martinez v. State of New Mexico remedies.

Simultaneously, Indigenous Peoples are engaged in important work as educators, community organizers, leaders, researchers, and policy actors to reaffirm and implement educational initiatives that address the issues and challenges of instructional delivery and educational reform.

We invite proposals for panels, papers, and workshops that address challenges to and possibilities for addressing critical Native education issues in contentious times. The audience for this conference includes students, educators, researchers, scholars, policy makers and community members.
